Run Along with the Runbike
I remember the old days when I was being trained to ride a bike properly. I had these training wheels on the back of my bike and was learning to pedal properly. When I finally was ready to get on a real bike, I would travel three feet, fall off, and break my fall with my face! I kept on thinking, why is this so much easier on my training bike? I would later find out that if I had learned to balance the bike properly instead of worrying about pedaling, my transition to a regular bike would have been much easier and less painful.
The main dilemma I faced, as with millions of other kids my age, was that I knew how to pedal properly but that didn’t account for anything when it came time to a real bike. The facts were that most kids would fall off before they started pedaling because they didn’t possess proper bike balancing techniques. Those training wheels on my training bike actually did more harm than good because it never taught me the fundamental aspect of balance and proper riding posture.
Now when it came time for my friend’s kids to start learning how to ride a bike, I vowed that they would get proper training and, unlike me, will not land on their faces.
There is this training bike in Europe that takes the balancing concept to a whole new level. A favorite, and must-have in European countries, this new training bike is fast replacing the training wheels I once learned on.
The radical design of the run bikes, from Ferbedo, may be hard to grasp at first but the results are unquestionable. It really works!! This bike has all the features of a regular adult bike such as rear breaks, adjustable height seats, and even a full aluminum frame. The only difference is that it contains no pedals or chains.
The philosophy behind this bike is to teach future bikers to properly balance their RUNBIKE with correct posture techniques. The children are pushed lightly from behind to gain momentum then they can steer, balance, and break without worrying about pedaling. It is much better than regular training wheels, I can assure you that.
Teaching the kids to balance properly first then learn to pedal makes much more sense because you must first learn to stabilize your bike before you can start moving faster. You first learn to crawl, then walk, then run when you are growing up so why not have the same learning structure for riding a bicycle.
I find that this learning process is much more conceivable and actually makes the transition to an adult bike 10 times faster than normal. I really wish I had this as a child so that I didn’t end up with those painful bruises on my face and elbows.
