Making crafts with kids can be one of the most rewarding and fun activities you can do with your child. Whether it’s at home, school or camp, children love making crafts to show to their parents or friends. One of the best fun crafts for kids that I have done in the past is the pinecone bird feeder. This easy craft takes under 30 minutes to complete and can be enjoyed for much longer. You will need:
*Pinecones – large – one for each feeder
*1/4 cup peanut butter per pinecone
*Popsicle sticks
*2 cups bird seed – the variety type
*String or yarn of your choice – cut into foot long strips
*Several old newspapers
You can collect pinecones outside or purchase them from a craft store if you do not have pinecones near your home. Let your child select which pinecones he or she would like. When you are ready to work, lay out the newspaper on a flat surface. This can be the floor, driveway or table. Use a Popsicle stick to spread peanut butter evenly over each pinecone. Spread the birdseed on the newspapers and then roll each covered pinecone through the seed until it is completely covered. Tie a piece of string around the top of each pinecone. Hang each pinecone from a tree and watch the birds flock.
Other fun crafts for kids include stringing cereal or popcorn on string and hanging it around the house, painting rocks found outside and using egg cartons and other recycled materials to make sculptures.
